Other exhibits include: Great Moments in Alberta Sports - 40-seat stadium-style theatre where you
can watch highlights of some of Alberta's greatest athletes. Honoured Members Gallery: Features
photographs and biographies of Athletes, Builders and Media who have been inducted into the Hall
of Fame. History Highlights: Six individual displays capture moments of time in Alberta's history
over the past century. Sport in the Community - The exciting 'tunnel' showcases many different
sports within the community and kids at play. The collection at the museum includes over 6000
artifacts consisting of clothing, trophies, medals, photographs, books and sports equipment.
For example, the Museum has the Edmonton Waterloo Mercury hockey jersey worn by Frank
Sullivan during the 1952 Olympics. This was the last time that Canada won Olympic Gold in
men's hockey.
Educational programs are individualized to meet the needs of the participants. The programs are based
on the social studies curriculum and are mainly self-directed. Students experience an understanding of
Alberta's rich sports heritage and are able to gain an insight into what it takes to make a great athlete.
The goal of the education program is to provide a framework in which students can utilize critical thinking
skills, take part in hands-on interactive experiences, and be assured of a learning but fun-filled field
trip.
The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame hosts an Induction Banquet in May of each year where seven sports celebrities
are inducted as Honoured Members. The Bell Memorial Award is also presented to a media person who has
significantly contributed to sports in Alberta. The Achievement Award is given to persons who have made an
extraordinary achievement in sports. The Pioneer Award is presented to persons who achieved greatness prior
to 1945. Another annual event is our golf tournament, held in August, in which many of our Honoured Members
participate.
