Program Outline: Students can investigate the Native people's way of life before the
coming of the Europeans, discover a homestead settlement with all its various functions, and
learn what changes Albertans had to make in order to cope with the conditions during the
Great Depression. This may include a log house construction demonstration, object name
hand-out, butter-making, candle-making, paper-making, spinning, or ice-cream making.
Program Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
Cost of Program: $0.50 per student for basic tour, an additional $0.50 per student if
a special event, such as ice-cream making, butter-making, candle-making, or paper-making is
ordered. Supervisors and adults are free.
Maximum Group Size: 30
Adult/Student Ratio: Approximately 6 students with each tour guide, accompanied by a
teacher or supervisor.
Program Materials: All materials provided
Pre/Post Trip Materials: Hand-outs on the Legend of Wetaskiwin will be given to each
student. In-class study kits are also available on the Great Depression.
