The Ellis Bird Farm is located 8 km east and 8 km south of Lacombe. The site is open to the public
between June 1 and the Labour Day weekend. Hours of operations are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday thru
Sunday. There is no admission fee; the suggested donation per person is $2-3. Tea House by reservation
for groups of six or more. Site visits during fall and winter by appointment.
Ellis Bird Farm was established to carry on the work of pioneer conservationists, Charles and Winnifred
Ellis of Lacombe. EBF is a non-profit company and is managed by a volunteer board of directors. While most
of the farm remains a working farm, the homestead site has been established as a demonstration backyard
wildlife habitat area. Amenities include a Tea House, self-guided trails, demonstration wildlife gardens,
a picnic area, bird banding tours and the "World's Largest" collection of functional bluebird nestboxes.
During the off-season, EBF offers educational programs on cavity-nesting birds, winter bird feeding and
backyard habitat.
Contact the museum or office for further information.
